Auto Repair Common Q & A:

Q: How Do I Know when to Change My Brakes?

A: Here are some signs you might need your brakes change or checked out.

SQUEALS - Your brakes should operate with a minimal amount of noise. Some noises are normal but excessive grinding, screech,  chatter,  groaning, clatter, squeal, or bang means your car brakes may need of car brakes repair.
·

PULLING - Your car pulls to one side when the brakes are applied. It could be an underinflated tire, a misadjusted brakes or brakes are in need of brake repair.
·

HAVING TO APPLY LOTS OF PRESURE ON PEDAL HARD PEDAL - Requires an extreme pressure to make your car brakes function. This may indicate power brake trouble, , frozen calipers, wheel cylinders, restricted hydraulic lines, or damaged brake linings.
·

BRAKES GRABBING - "Touchy" brakes that grab with the least amount of pressure applied. This may indicate a problem as simple as oil or grease contaminated linings - or could be as serious as loose or broken component getting  ready to fail in an emergency.
·

BRAKE DASHBOARD  LIGHTS - Red indicates a problem that can be as simple as your car's  parking brake on, or it could be low fluid, to something possibly as serious as a hydraulic system failure. Yellow usually indicates deactivation of your ABS system. Your brakes should still work, it does require an inspection at the first opportunity you get.

DRAGGING -,Hot wheels, sticking brakes or engine seems to have lost some power. Car brakes may possibly be failing to release; this condition can also reverse itself, leaving you with no auto brakes at all. This would indicate your car brakes needs to me service.

BRAKE VIBRATION - Brake pedal and steering wheel or entire vehicle shakes, pulsates or vibrates when the brakes are applied. This may indicate need to resurface your cars disc brake rotors - or it could signal a serious problem of a loose component or possibly a faulty steering mechanism.
